A SUMMER OF INACTION

By Luke Traynor on May 29, 08 01:37 PM in

ANYONE else getting worried about the deafening silence emanating out of Anfield in recent weeks?
This summer, perhaps more than any before it, we all called for a time of frantic wheeling and dealing to hone the Anfield squad.
We've got a brilliant spine, but a flaking outer skin, remember?
Rooting out the bad eggs, bringing in the star quality for a genuine title push in 2008-2009. It's the clarion call.
Yet, three weeks after the end of the season, and just over two months before we kick off again, we've seen precious little to show us that positive moves are afoot.

SHARE LFC

HOW many new Liverpool fan groups are on the go at the moment?
It's difficult to keep up sometimes - if it's not Spirit of Shankly, it's AFC Liverpool. And if it's not them, it's Share LFC.
Anyhow, here's the latest from the latter, Rogan Taylor's shindig.

BILLY LIDDELL TRIBUTE

By Luke Traynor on May 23, 08 12:30 PM in

Details of a Billy Liddell campaign to get a memorial erected in his hometown of Townhill.
One of the best and most widely-respected Reds to grace Anfield.
This deserves your support.

MOSCOW VERDICT

By Luke Traynor on May 22, 08 11:16 PM in

.So, as a grimacing Red on Wednesday night, what did everyone think of Moscow?
Any joy or pleasure to be had from one of rivals spectacularly biting the dust? Or was it pain all the way?
I'm sure the sight of blubbing Johnathan Terry will not have left many Liverpool fans despairing, nor the sight of the petulant Drogba being sent off.

IT'S BEEN a topsy-turvy year.
Such high hopes at the start of the season, thoughts that this really could have been our year, but instead a lot of what-might-have-beens.
The activity off the pitch with the Yanks was even more of a talking point than the football itself.
So now the last 10 months have been taken care of, it's time to pick out the good, bad, ugly and bizarre from the season that was 2007-2008.
A panel of well-respected Red pundits have sat down together in The Paraffin Oil Shop and discussed over a few pints our winners and sinners.
All victors will get a hat, scarf and a badge from a scally looking bloke on Skerries Road.

THE ALONSO DEBATE

By Luke Traynor on May 15, 08 12:54 PM in

IF one player splits opinion among Reds fans, it's Xabi Alonso.
After a mediocre season from the Spaniard, speculation has increased about a possible Anfield exit.
For some supporters that would be transfer suicide; to others it would be a sound piece of football business

THE DILEMMA

By Luke Traynor on May 6, 08 09:51 PM in Misc LFC

WHO are you supporting in Moscow?
That's the agonising conundrum a fellow Red in the office put to me yesterday which pretty much left me defeated whichever way I thought about it.
Ok, so neither is the obvious answer, but most of us will probably be watching the final and I'm sure we'll be secretly half-siding with one of the horrible lot, if only to pile the misery on the other.
So who do we pick?

GAZZA BAZZA

By Luke Traynor on May 2, 08 07:12 PM in

We've faxed through a £10m bid for Gareth Barry.
It's good to see that Rafa is deciding to get into the transfer market early, as we always leave our summertime wheeling and dealing far too late.
But I'm not convinced that, as good as Barry is, he is what we need.

THE dream is over.
We won't be going to a third Champions League final in four years.
But we went pretty damn close.

ECHO AUTHORS

Luke Traynor has been following Liverpool for the past 30 years. His first major recollection is staying up way past his bedtime as a six-year-old to watch Alan Kennedy caress the ball into the net against Roma to record a fourth European Cup. Here he reflects on the highs and lows of the current Anfield order.
