SO the first trophy of the season goes to Spurs, news that will sit fairly comfortably on the Red half of Merseyside.
Not that any Liverpool fan particularly wants any other team other than the Reds to do well, but I've never fostered the same hostility towards Tottenham as I do towards some other Premiership clubs.
What's the reason?
Granted, you're always going to reserve that extra bit of animosity towards your biggest or most local rivals (take a bow The Blues, The Mancs and Chelski).
But since an early age I've never had a burning desire to watch Spurs fall from grace.
Perhaps its their insistence on decent flowing football that has been always been part of their heritage.
But then again, the same could be said about Newcastle over the last ten or so years, and I'm rarely lending a cheer to urge on The Toon.
One of the things that has let down the Geordies over the years is the bare torso fatty brigade, sitting their in the stands in winter, sans strip, just letting it all hang out on live TV.
They seem to think it shows off their fervour and wackiness, but it's just all very unnecessary.
Generally, we've always had a decent record against Spurs, so any team you monopolise over a long period of time you develop a certain kind of acceptance towards.
But, they've never had too many obnoxious players on the books.
Remember when Gary Mabbutt was nearly blinded after John Fashanu's sickening elbow into his eye socket?
I can't recall too many words being said in anger by the centre-half even after that horrific incident.
These days, Keane, Berbatov, King, Robinson, Malbranque, Jenas all seem like good pros to me.
Anyway, I'll wind up now before someone accuses me of being a closet White Hart Laner.
Let me know who you find semi-palatable, if anyone at all.
